C. 28804 Much merriment, tun and games, a lot or beer, and a really good time was had by all at WUNF-FM's "Great Escape" on the soccer field Saturday April 10. Beginning around 4:00 with competition in egg- throwing, beer drinking, and running down the track with a balloon between one's legs, the affair lasted until late evening. More photos on page 3. RIDGERUNNER Photo by Mark Puckett Decision Soon On Food The name of the commercial company that will operate UNC-A's food service next year will be an nounced Friday, April 16 according to Vice- Chancellor For Finance William Pott. Pott said "a defi- nate decision will be made Friday." He said he has been contacted by the companies who have submitted bids asking about the sta tus of the decision, and did not want to release any informa tion until Friday, Last Thursday, Steve Harvey, chair man of the student food service committee, presented recommenda tions to Pott. Harvey said his committee sur veyed dorm students and his recommendations con sisted of the results of the poll. Mr. Pott requested the Ridge- runner not to release the committee's recom mendation's until Fri day. According to Pott, he made a recommenda tion to the Chancellor who, in turn, made his recommendation to the appropriate University Committee in Chapel Hill. A final decision on UNC-A's food ser vice for next year will come from the General Administration in Cha pel Hill. UNC-A has experi enced at least three different food compa nies in the last five years. This past year the university ran the food service operation. The last issue of the 1975-76 Ridqerunner will be published Thursday, April 29. Deadline for the 17th issue is Monday, April 26. Final Five Year Plan Released According to a re view of proposals made by the new companies prepared by Pott's office, "it is esti mated that UNC-A will lose between $15,000 and $20,000 in 1975-76 as a result of operat ing the food service facility itself." Summit Editor Selected Nora Aiken, a jun ior political science major from Arden, was recently selected Sum mit editor for the 1976-77 academic year. She was selected to head next year's year book at a meetjng of the selection committee on April' 1. Leaving the second floor of the student center in a state of disblief, WUNF-FM sta tion manager Larry Warren recently decided to let his present term expire and not seek a third term as radio station manager. Accord ing to Warren, who has held the post since |1974, the station's executive committee will jmeet within the next few days to select a new manager. At this time, it appears the next manager will be WKKE DJ David Anderson, the only applicant to date for the post. Once Warren' most likely successor, WUNF DJ Kurt Wriqht | is transferring from UNC-A. i IflllHIUUlUlllllllllllllltllllllllllHIIIIIUIIinilllllllllllHIIIIIIISBIIUIilttllillllllllllllllllUliii^ A final draft of the Five Year Plan on Student Services was presented to the Chan cellor last week by the Plan's steering committee chairman Dean of Students Tom Deason. The 23 page document was made pub lic recently by the Chancellor. According to Chan cellor Highsmith, "I am very pleased to get the report. It repre sents a lot of hard work on the part of the people involved." He indicated the re port was very compre hensive but said, "so lutions to problems should not be limited to those recommended. The final document represents the work of six student/faculty/ alumni committees on different phases of campus student servi ces. The committees were established last April with the task of determing: "(1) what is the situation now, (2) what do we want, and (3) what will it take to get what we want," in each of the respective areas. The six areas of student services re ceiving study were: student government, broadcasting and pub lications, campus or ganizations, inter collegiate athletics, intramurals and re creation, and student center, dormitories, and food. According to the Chancellor, the Plan will be presented to the Board of Trustees' Committee on Student Affairs. The Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, April 15 with the Plan's steer ing committee, and de cide in what form the Plan will be presented to the full Board. Highlights of the recommendations of the Five Year Plan on Stu dent Services are as follows:--Student Go vernment: "(1) more S.G. funds be invested in permanent recrea tional facilities, (2) the role of the S.G. judiciary be cla rified, (3) the grow ing adversary relation ship between S.G. and the administration be discussed in an atmos phere of mutual trust, (4) information about S.G. actions be ac tively distributed to the student body, (5) qualifications for S.G. officials be tightened." --Broadcasting and Publications: "(1) a Publications Board be established, (2) the Board will choose the editors of the Summit, Ridqerunner, and Im ages, (3)the Board cen sure or remove an edi tor that it finds guil ty of violating the right of free speech or the stated policy of the publication, (4) the publications be funded on the basis of a direct per capita sum taken automatically from student fees." --Intramurals and Recreation: "(1) pro vide control for the facilities, (2) pro vide maximum availa bility of existing facilities, (3) pro vide adequate equip ment for loan, (4) provide plans for new facilities for more recreational space." --Intercollegiate Athletics: "(1) a bill board be constructed on campus to let all students know what sports are being play ed when, (2) public relations be improved for each sport, (3) each sport have a seperate bank account, CONT.
